Our mission is to offer delicious fresh wholesome dishes, freshly made salads, juices, sandwiches, soups, main dishes and desserts, all fresh and at affordable prices.
Westgate Design is a family run company that has adapted and changed over the years since its beginnings from an off the farm enterprise in rural Wexford in 1978.
Because of a need to supplement farming activities and a desire to design, a knitwear design business was set up by Catherine Jordan in 1978. She quickly established herself as a talented and well recognised designer on the domestic market. However it was through her membership of the wexford craft-workers that proved to be the start of something bigger and better for the business. A need was soon highlighted that a permanent location was needed to showcase the work of the craft-workers from the wexford region.
Through this need Westgate Design was born. Its first home, and what subsequently gave it its name, was the tower in the heritage centre at Westgate in Wexford town.
After several years of successful trading in this location Westgate Design moved to a premises in the quiet area of Selskar off Wexford’s Main Street. It was here that Westgate Design’s collection took on a more international feel, stocking products from Europe, the UK and further, but still concentrating on local craft.
Changing Locations
Its current location was the next move for Westgate Design. The business has been trading here, right in heart of Wexford’s main Street since 1996. It was here that the Westgate Design restaurant/cafe was born, giving the people of Wexford a new and unique venue to have lunch or a mug of coffee, all in a warm and welcoming atmosphere
In 2003 Westgate Design went through something of a face lift. Due to increased business in the restaurant, capacity could not keep up with demand and so an extension was built. A larger kitchen was created plus much needed additional seats were also added. It was during this time that skincare and beauty rooms were opened on the top floor.
In 2005 the outside catering element to the business was launched. “Events by Westgate Design” provided a unique service to the people of wexford. Offering them the chance to have the food they loved in our restaurant to be either served or delivered to their home or office. Over the years this business has grown at a great pace. Today, weddings, corporate launches and marquee events are a speciality, and “Events by Westgate Design” is considered one of the leading event caterers in the southeast.
Further development happened in Westgate Design in 2007. An adjoining building was acquired and developed into a kitchen devoted solely to home baking and the outside catering business. Adjacent to this kitchen the “Deli@Westgate Design” was launched. Here customers could buy our food to take with them in a more speedily and convenient way. Salads, pestos, oils, dressings are all made in-house and packaged under our own label.
2008 saw the introduction of yet another element to the business with the introduction of the “hire-it” idea. From dealing with customers booking parties and events we saw a need for people who need to hire everything from a teaspoon to Tables and chairs. So we decided to set this service up and it was launched early March 2008.
Family Run Business
Today Westgate Design is a very much family run business, run exclusively by the Jordan family; Catherine, Leonard, Darren and Keith who all take a very active and hands-on approach to running their business. With one of the family always on the premises.
Westgate Design is situated in the heart of Wexford’s bustling Main Street. On display is a showcase of quality Irish and International design. We also run a very popular Restaurant and Deli on the lower floor, together with a growing Event Catering business.
When you walk through what you think is a normal shop front off Wexford’s Main Street, you are presented with a myriad of gift and design ideas that stretch over our long and well stocked shop. At the back of the Design Centre we house our fashion collections in a relaxed and luxurious space. This is where collections from top Irish designers rub shoulders with leading international names.
On the lower floor you will find our restaurant, producing healthy fresh food daily from our kitchens. The atmosphere is welcoming and relaxed. Perhap you just want a coffee with a homemade scone and a place to read the paper, or maybe you’d like a main course and dessert after a busy morning shopping. Whatever you choose we will be happy to look after you.
Adjacent to our restaurant is the Westgate Deli, where there is the opportunity to take some of our food home with you. We stock our most popular dressings, salads, breads, scones etc. – all available for you to enjoy at home, or to give as a gift.
